Things don’t always go as you plan, especially when on vacation. I had thought that I’d take a little time each day to post. But I didn’t. Lesson learned.
Above is the view from the apartment we stayed in at the start of our 2-week trip to Italy.
We found it through Views On Venice, which manages rental properties. This unit (called Ca’ Samuele) was literally on the water at the big lower bend of the Grand Canal. Excellent location halfway between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. Close by both but in a very quiet neighborhood.

Here’s a picture of it from across the canal, taken with one hand on a camera and another on a pier piling to keep me from falling in the water. The apartment is the bottom 2 right windows of the pretty pink building in the center.
A little more about the great service Views on Venice provides: online booking and payment (although you must pay in full 3 weeks before you arrive); they’ll help you with a search if you can’t quite find what you want; and they’ll meet you at the vaporetto (water bus) stop and show you how to find your place through all the twists and turns.
If you’re planning on staying in Venice for 4 days, a week or more, I highly recommend getting an apartment. It’s much easier to feel like a local than a tourist and you can save a considerable amount of money.

Hi
Love your gorgeous photos. I am thinking of renting this apartment and wondering if you had any helpful information. It seems like a great location. The bed seems a little small for my 6ft tall husband, is it comparable to an American Queen? Was the apartment convenient.
Thanks
Thanks re: the photos. It’s hard not to take nice pictures in Venice
We really liked the apartment’s location. Although right on the bend of the canal, it is less than a 15-minute walk from either San Marco or Rialto. But, you’re 3 minutes from 2 vaporetto stops. It’s maybe another three minutes to Accademia bridge which gets you over to Dorsoduro. So, for us, it was very convenient because we like to walk but it’s all reasonably close to everything and still very quiet at night.
The bed is equivalent to a queen – that’s what my wife and I sleep on at home and it seemed the same size. But both of us are 5′ 8″, so take that into account.
I would suggest that you bring a flashlight for going down the smallest alleys near the apartment. Although there’s good lighting at intervals, we did use the flashlight for finding the keyhole and the short walk across the courtyard. Easier than finding the light switch in the dark.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, we would stay there again without hesitation. And Views on Venice was great, very professional.

hi,
We are thinking to rent this apartament on december but we would like to know what type of heating has the apartament or if it has microwave.
we would be grateful for some helpful information
Best wishes,
Miguel
To be honest, I can’t recall if it had either. We only dined out and the weather was very fine.
I’d just shoot Views on Venice an email and ask them.
Sorry for not knowing the answer to this.
thanks for everything
best regards
